Reading Football Club celebrates new LGBTQ+ flag for matches
Reading Football Club has debuted a new flag for the stadium in collaboration with LGBTQ+ supporters group, Proud Royals.
The flag made its debut in Reading’s match against Stevenage on 9 August.
It will remain on the south side of the South Stand of the Select Car Leasing Stadium for future fixtures.
The stadium recently employed dedicated LGBTQ+ stewards for fans to approach on match days if needed.
Proud Royals were contacted by former footballer, Anwar Uddin, who asked if the group would be interested in having the flag at their team’s home ground.
They worked together on the design and were backed by the Football Supporters’ Association.

The group was set up by matchday supervisor Thomas Williams, which aimed to make LGBTQ+ feel more comfortable at football matches.
“The response in the last few days has been amazing, especially from other LGBT groups who have messaged offering their support to us, also STAR have been lending a hand in giving me great advice and support. I want to bring all our fans together, whether they’re gay or straight, as we all the love the same things, football and Reading FC,” he said.
