Maren Morris effortlessly shuts down online trolls after bringing son to drag show
Maren Morris has epically clapped back at the online trolls targeting her over her support of the drag community.
On 12 April, ‘The Middle’ singer appeared on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she opened up about her longstanding LGBTQIA+ advocacy and taking her son to a family-friendly drag show.
“We were doing a benefit at Bridgestone last year when they were doing the drag ban in Tennessee. And so it was myself and Hozier. There was just like a whole wall of amazing artists,” she explained.
“And so, there were drag queens throughout entertaining as well, and one actually danced with me when I was singing my song, ‘The Middle,’ and it was just amazing and fun.
“My son loves watching me sit in the makeup chair and is fascinated with the colours, so it was completely harmless.”
Towards the end of her story, Morris praised drag for being “an amazing expression of artistry” before discussing the importance of embracing the community.
“I think normalising it and making it seem like these are just people that love dressing up too is an amazing thing. And it was an all-ages show, so it was completely family-friendly,” she continued.
“It was just important for me for [my son] to see his mom doing that [and] I’ve never really shied away from taking him to my shows. He’s on the road with me all the time.”
While many of Morris’ fans loved her story, a handful of social media trolls targeted the ‘My Church’ singer for her son attending a drag show.
Fortunately, the beloved talent didn’t let the criticism get her down.

Instead, Morris took to her Instagram story to shut down the haters with an epic statement.
“Ok, this ‘save the children’ plea always seems to distract from what we’re actually talking about,” the former Drag Race guest judge wrote.
“If you’re making the ‘exposure to children’ argument, there are a lot of gowns in Catholicism, makeup and powdered wigs in theatre historically worn by only men, Mrs. Doubtfire that charmed our childhoods… the list goes on.
“Drag is centuries-long performance art and some drag is only for adults. The performance I referenced in this interview was a charity all-ages show to protest the unlawful drag ban in Tennessee that was rightfully overturned.”
As Morris mentioned, the Grammy winner performed at the Love Rising concert in March 2023, which was a benefit in support of drag artists in Tennessee.
At the time, the state introduced a law banning public drag shows.
Ahead of her performance of ‘Crowded Table’, Morris revealed to the crowd that she introduced her son to some drag queens before exclaiming, “So Tennessee, fucking arrest me!”
