Interview with the Vampire: AMC teases season 3 with sexy rockstar Lestat trailer

Attention Lestat fans! AMC has finally teased The Brat Prince’s rockstar era.

Back in May, fans were finally treated to the second season of the beloved supernatural drama based on Anne Rice’s critically acclaimed Vampire Chronicles book series.

Picking up after the events of season one, Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) and his pseudo-daughter Claudia (Delainey Hayes) head to Europe after they seemingly put an end to their maker, Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid).

While searching for other vampires, the two stumble upon Armand (Assad Zaman) and the mysterious immortal acting troupe, Theatre des Vampires, in Paris, France.

Louis and Claudia’s entry into the coven is fraught with challenges as they grapple with Lestat’s haunting memory and the treacherous power dynamics of the vampire world.

Like its first outing, Interview with the Vampire season two received unanimous acclaim from fans and critics, with many praising the cast’s stellar performances, captivating scripts, and the European backdrop.

The new batch of episodes even racked in a 98% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

On 27 June – days before its season finale – the show was renewed for a third season, with reports stating that the plot would center on Rice’s fan favourite book, The Vampire Lestat.

For those unfamiliar with the 1985 novel, the story sees Lestat take on a new rockstar persona as he creates his own autobiography in response to Daniel Malloy and Louis’ Interview with the Vampire book.

While the show’s third season is a ways away, AMC decided to surprise fans at 2024 Comic Con in San Diego with an incredible first look at Lestat and all of his sexy rocker glory.

At the start of the teaser, a Lestat look-alike in grungy clothes – sits in a chair as he preps the camera for the real Brat Prince’s arrival.

As the stage crew get ready to film an interview, Daniel (Eric Bogosian) and an executive producer named Mark Johnson complain about the vampire’s tardiness.

“The car’s been on the lot for hours, man,” Daniel says off-camera before Mark speculates that Lestat is entertaining someone in his vehicle.

After Daniel jokingly asks if the production crew has homicide insurance, the real Lestat enters the studio dressed in an electric punk/glam rock-inspired ensemble.

“You have 45 minutes, and then he’s gone,” Christine Claire, Lestat’s lawyer, cooly states off camera, which doesn’t sit well with Daniel.

Amid the prep chaos, Lestat delivers some of his iconic sass, shooing off a makeup artist and expressing his disgust over a dehydrated sound technician.

After a person with an arm tattoo stating “Armand told the truth” slams down the clapperboard, Daniel attempts to start the interview.

However, before the sit-down properly takes off, Daniel coughs uncontrollably, resulting in Lestat using his powers to control the camera.

“I am the vampire Lestat. I’m immortal, more or less, the light of the sun, the sustained heat of an intense fire. These things might destroy me, but then again, they might not,” he telepathically states while staring into the camera.

The trailer then transitions into a series of clips featuring Lestat going through a range of emotions and outfits while one of his songs plays in the background.

“Ooh Ooh Ooh, wah ahhhhhhh! Why the long face, my pretty baby? I got long fangs come appraise me. Bring your long stakes that doesn’t phase me,” Lestat croons.

“I’m an actor in my makeup. I’ll get fatter when we break up. Why does it matter who I take up.”

The teaser ends with Lestat delivering a showstopping high note as he stares menacingly into the camera.

Shortly after the trailer’s release, fans flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their excitement for the sneak peek and forthcoming season.

One person tweeted: “This is such a blessing for those of us who have been fans of the books for decades… We are so lucky to have Sam! Anne would be so proud.”

Another fan wrote: “I’m going ABSOLUTELY INSANE RIGHT NOW!!!”

A third viewer added: “The makeup??? the hair??? the blood???? SERVED.”

As of this writing, a release date for Interview with the Vampire season three has not been announced.
