Madonna has told fans she “couldn’t be more grateful” for their support in her first statement since news of her hospitalisation broke.

The 64-year-old said she is “on the road to recovery” in a heartfelt message posted to Instagram on 10 July.

“My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children,” the Queen of Pop wrote.

“My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour.

“I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.”

Madonna added that her focus now is on her “health and getting stronger”.

The ‘Holiday’ singer assured fans she would be “back” as soon as possible and confirmed that the “current plan” is to reschedule the North American leg of her ‘Celebration’ tour, which was due to begin on 15 July in Canada.

It will instead kick off in London on 14 October at the O2 Arena.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for your care and support,” the star continued.

Madonna was seen in public for the first time since being released from the hospital a week and a half ago when pictures emerged of her in New York City over the weekend.

Her upcoming tour will honour her legendary discography and will see ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ winner Bob the Drag Queen appear as a special guest.
