Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a sweeping range of anti-LGBTQ+ laws targeting drag shows, which bathrooms people use, gender-affirming care and preferred pronouns. The bills were signed at the evangelical Cambridge Christian School in Tampa on 17 May, the same day as International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Florida bans Medicaid from covering gender-affirming care for transgender patients

In a massive blow to LGBTQ+ rights, Florida officially banned Medicaid from covering gender-affirming care for transgender recipients.  On 10 August, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration added the new regulation to the state’s $36.2 billion medical program, which the Florida Medical Board voted on a week prior.
