Kentucky lawmakers pass “dangerous” new bill banning gender-affirming care for trans youth

Kentucky has passed an archaic new bill banning gender-affirming care for trans youth.  Over the last few years, Republican lawmakers have ruthlessly targeted the rights of trans individuals across the United States.  Since the start of 2023, over 300 anti-trans bills have been introduced across 43 states.  According to Track Trans Legislation, Arkansas, West Virginia, Utah and Wyoming have already passed laws banning trans people from life-saving health care, sports participation, and using bathrooms aligned with their gender identity.  On 17 March, Kentucky joined the aforementioned states after passing Senate Bill…

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Democrats pressure Japan to advance LGBTQ+ rights

Ahead of the Group of Seven summit this May, U.S. Representative Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez has urged Japan to move forward on legislation that protects its LGBTQ+ citizens. Senate Bill 43 (SB43) was passed on 24 January in a 29-6 party line vote which saw all six of the chamber’s Democrats opposing. It will now head to the majority-Republican House where, if passed, will…

Democrats in 16 US states pledge to protect trans youth with new legislation

Democratic lawmakers from 16 states committed to helping transgender youth who have been affected by anti-LGBTQ+ laws in America. This will be done through legislation that will provide legal refuge to trans people and their families who have been displaced. The coalition was announced by the LGBTQ+ Victory Institute and other advocate groups on 3 May, where California state Senator Scott Wiener said he is “sick of just playing defence against what these red states are doing.” “We’re going on offence, we’re going to protect LGBTQ kids and their families…
