Bob the Drag Queen hits back at critics of Monét X Change’s Drag Race All Stars 7 performance

Bob the Drag Queen has called out “racist” Drag Race fans who criticised Monét X Change for her All Stars 7 Variety Show number.

On the penultimate episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7, the queens were tasked with showcasing their unique talents during the staple maxi-challenge.

While the ladies delivered an array of showstopping acts, Monét’s opera performance of La Sonnambula proved to be a stand out of the episode.

One user tweeted: “Monét singing opera will go down in history as one of the most iconic Drag Race talent shows.”

Another fan wrote:Monet with the opera had me IN TEARS. Is there no end to their talent????? #AllStars7″

However alongside the massive amounts of praise, some “fans” took to social media to criticise the beloved queen with racist remarks.

On 25 July, Bob took to Twitter to slam the haters and their harmful statements.

“To the people online who are hating on Monét… I just don’t understand why [you] gotta say racist shit. Just be a piece of garbage in private. Why you gotta let the whole world know that you are morally bankrupt,” she wrote.

“If you don’t understand opera… just say that. If you don’t have the sophistication, understanding and attention span to appreciate something other than kicks and splits, just admit it.”

Over the years, racially aggravated hate on social media has become a widespread issue within the Drag Race fandom.

After her stint on season 10, Asia O’Hara was threatened to be burned alive by ‘fans’ because of her skin colour, and season 11 competitor Silky Nutmeg Ganache later revealed that racist viewers sent death threats to her family and friends.

Drag Race Thailand star Pangina Heals was also inundated with racist remarks and death threats from online trolls during her stint on Drag Race UK vs the World.

Last year, in response to the various instances of hateful behaviour, World of Wonder’s Instagram page addressed the Drag Race trolls with several pointed statements, including, “If you can’t love our queens, STFU,” and “Kindness is cool.”

The seventh season of Drag Race All Stars will come to a gag-worthy end this Friday (29 July) with a lip-sync smackdown for the crown between Jinkx Monsoon, Monét X Change, Shea Couleé and Trinity the Tuck.
